If your desktop is becoming too crowded with icons, you might want to consider a more efficient solution for launching your favorite applications. A good candidate is PopSel, which lets you run your applications and perform various actions through a pop-up menu. The software gives you a good degree of control over how shortcuts are organized in the menu. What's more, its customization options are easy to master, even for novice users.

PopSel's components can be extracted from a ZIP archive, after which you can launch the application right away, without going through an installation process. You can use it on any modern Windows platform. The application's hardware requirements are modest and you don't have to install any prerequisite tools or services.

Running the application's executable will immediately bring up a pop-up menu. When you launch PopSel for the first time, the pop-up will contain an option for opening the menu creation tool. Creating a menu is quite easy. It is sufficient to select one or more executables, through a simple browsing option, but there are other things you can do as well.

Added applications are displayed in a list, on the menu creation tool. Besides targeting applications, you can also add parameters, change their menu entry name and set PopSel to run them normally, minimized or maximized. Separators can be added as well, if you have too many applications and you wish to spot them faster.

Each time you run PopSel's executable, the pop-up menu will show up next to your mouse cursor. This way, you can have a single shortcut on your desktop and still be able to launch any application on your computer at a moment's notice. Furthermore, PopSel is not limited to applications. You can also use it to open folders and documents, web links and much more.

All shortcuts appear in the menu in the exact order in which you've added them. If you have too many shortcuts and the separators aren't of too much help, you can organize your applications in sub-menus. This can be done on the same configurations window, by typing "submenu/" in the "Menu Item" field. The software comes with a demo menu, which can help you figure out how to set up sub-menus. The configuration menu can be brought up at any time, by cancelling the pop-up after you bring it up.
